In September of 1970, Flip Wilson aired his hour-long variety show on NBC in which he portrayed a provocative, sassy character named Geraldine. In every skit, Geraldine would always say: “What you see is what you get!”

No truer words have ever been spoken that depict, with such clarity, the meaning of the Universal Law of Mind: “As a man [mind] thinks, so is he [so will he experience]” (Proverbs 23:7).

Many great teachers, gurus, and philosophers have called this universal law by many different names. Some call it the Law of Creation. Some refer to this cosmic truth as the Law of Mind, the Law of Life or the Law of Thinking. It matters not what one calls it. The fact is this law is timeless, universal, eternal, unchanging and applies to everyone on the planet. It works all the time, whether you are aware of it or not. It works for good as well as bad, and for right or wrong. It does not discriminate or exercise moral judgment outside of individual thinking. So, why not take the time to learn how this immutable law works and use it consciously, deliberately to achieve all the good that you desire? Let’s take a quick look at just how this powerful natural law works.

For the purpose of this brief discussion, I will call this natural law the Law of Mind. The fact that this law is universal and eternal, means that this law is a spiritual law for all spiritual laws are immutable. This spiritual law does not make it a ‘religious thing’, even though different religions have adopted it in their religious teachings and dogmas. This law existed before humans, organized religion or sacred practices appeared on the scene. Suffice it to say, it would be a wonderful thing if people truly understood the creative power of this spiritual law and consciously practiced it. If they did, they would realize that they really can have, do and be anything for the good that they desired. You can learn more about this powerful universal law in my next 2 books: The Courage to Walk Away – My Journey to Spiritual Freedom & Keys to Living Life Abundantly. I have written several chapters on this subject in each book. So, stay tuned! Look out for the release of these books.

The Law of Mind means exactly what Geraldine said. Whatsoever a person visualizes, imagines in his/her mind with feelings, that person will experience the same in his/her life. “What you see, is what you get!” If you think, imagine, visualize and believe you ‘always get it wrong,’ (no matter what ‘it’ is that you always get wrong), then that is what will happen to you. If you believe the lie that you are not good, or not good enough, or smart enough, you will feel inadequate and people will treat you that way. People are not responding to you as a person. They are responding to your ‘energetic perception,’ ‘your vibes’, your inner feelings of inadequacy. This is a lie that you believe about yourself, and is not the truth of who you really are.

Beliefs of inadequacy can show up as being bullied, abused, deceived, cheated on, lied to, yelled at, dismissed, talked about, rejected, etc. The list goes on. You may also lack the self-confidence, self-esteem or courage to do, be and have the type of life you really want to experience. You tend to give up easily or worst, compromise to the degree that it causes you pain. People who feel and believe deep down within their subconscious mind that they are inferior, less than, not good or good enough, or subordinate to others, will be treated that way. It can be no other way because of the Law of Mind. Remember: Your experiences will always match your beliefs. If you want to experience something else, you have to believe something else about yourself. Beliefs are just thoughts that you keep thinking to be true for you. Thoughts are not physical things. They are ‘energy forms’ and as such, they move and vibrate at different frequencies. We know from that great physicist, Albert Einstein, that “like frequencies attract like frequencies”. If you hold the ‘thought frequency’ of being inferior, not good or good enough, lacking, limited, held back, blocked, or ‘less than’ anything or another, then, my friend, that is what life will return to you. It is law! You can only get back what you give out.

If you would like to test the truth of this universal Law of the Mind, may I suggest you conduct a little experiment. If you want to make it similar to a scientific experiment, invite several people to participate. Some participants will make a positive statement, while others will make a negative statement. Here is what you can do. For 30 days, keep telling yourself with feelings and conviction multiple times each day for 30 days, the following positive statement: “Things are always working out for me!” If you enrolled others to participate in your little experiment, have some of them make one of the following negative statements: “Everything keeps going wrong for me!” or “I can’t get anything right!” Make the assigned statement in the morning, just before you get out of bed and at night, just before you go to bed. Whenever possible, look into a mirror each time you make your statement. At first, you will likely feel silly doing this because it is something new and out of character for you. Stay with it! In just a short time, it will feel normal to you. You are ‘rewiring’ your brain, reprogramming your subconscious mind to adopt and execute a new program that will change your behavior and experiences. Here is a short video that talks about how the brain is rewired:

Keep making the assigned statement until “it feels true” for you. Go throughout the day making the (positive or negative) statement every day for 30 days. No matter what happens to you during the day, keep making the statement with feelings and conviction.

Keep a journal of everything that happens to you over the next 30 days. Note any and everything that comes up for you, especially any changes that take place in how people treat you, how you feel and the things that happen to you. Record the incidents and what takes place. Spare no details! If you maintain the integrity of this quasi-experiment, you will see how things change for you in 7, 12, 15, 21 and 30 days. The time will vary because it takes some people longer than others to experience notable changes in how they feel and what they experience. Regardless of the time it takes, you will see for yourself how things got better or worse for you as a direct consequence of your shift in energy (things you believe about yourself). This is the Law of Mind at work. You will see for yourself that Geraldine was right! What you see is what you get, honey!
