Vivian Hardison joined Rotary in 2007 and early in her club membership, she attended the Rotary Leadership Institute and loved it. She became passionate about Rotary’s mission and has served as an Assistant District Governor and is a Faculty Member of the Rotary Leadership Institute (RLI).

Vivian has her Master’s degree in Psychology and has returned to school to obtain her doctorate. In addition to being a psychologist, Vivian is a certified professional coach. She is the President of Vivian Hardison Enterprises and a founding partner of the Coaching Cohort.

She has been speaking to Rotary Clubs on the topic of diversity in Rotary and how diversity could help reverse the membership attrition Rotary is experiencing.

During her presentation, she spoke on RLI as a great tool for club growth and leadership development. She also spoke on the importance of personal development, empowerment and ingenuity to create right thinking, self-awareness and problem solving skills.

She asked members to relate diversity to the Rotary Four Way Test. She also asked members to define diversity and also what we would like to see our club accomplish. Members spoke of inclusivity, and how a better diversified club would create better perspectives and bring new ideas and options to community impact projects.

During Q & A, Vivian said that her work with Rotary Clubs on diversity has helped to initiate introspection and discussion.

Vivian finished her presentation with a quote from Nelson Mandela:
“No one is born hating another person because of the color of his skin, or his background, or his religion. People must learn to hate, and if they can learn to hate, they can be taught to love, for love comes more naturally to the human heart than its opposite.”
